T.S. BELLE (1928)
Originally launched in 1928 for the rival company, Crown Line, the BELLE was to be the ultimate appeal to ocean liner travel. Sadly, the Crash of 1929 and the Depression led to Crown Line having to sell the still incomplete BELLE to the American Atlantic Line. One finaly act of paying homage to the designers who made her the Atlantic Line decided to let the ship undergo her sea trials flying the signature Crown Line flag and with her funnels in the Crown Line's colors. The BELLE's maiden voyage was pushed until the end of 1931 for American Atlantic. She sailed until 1943 while she was on trooping duties in the Pacific, caught fire and sank in shallow water. The wreck was raised and brought to New York and was scrapped in 1946.
